Megha asked,
I am preparing for IAS 2013. I am suffering from high
myopia. Power in my right eye is -10.75 and left eye is -9.50.If i undergo
any surgery like IMPLANTABLE CONTACT LENS (ICL) then will it affect my
selection? I called up UPSC BOARD but they said everything is given on
internet but nothing is given regarding ICL.
There are two types of jobs offered under Civil service Exam by UPSC:
1.Technical (IPS, Railway protection, Railway traffic Management)
2. Non-technical (IAS,IFS, Revenue, postal etc etc)
No matter what surgery you undergo, no matter how high your glass power is, you're medically fit for the non-technical jobs (IAS,IFS,Revenue etc) So don't worry, go ahead with the surgery.
UPSC rule specifically mentions that any sort of eye-surgery makes you unfit for the technical jobs only (viz.IPS, Railway protection, Railway traffic Management). You'll still remain fit for the other jobs (IAS,IFS,Revenue etc).
