Question
What's the difference in IPS officer vs State Service police officers such as Dy.SP?
IPS officers are recruited via UPSC's civil service exam while Dy.SP are State service police officers, recruited via State Public service Commission.
- As a State service Dy.SP, You'll have limited chances of moving up in the police hierarchy. (Forget about becoming City Police commissioners, DGP etc)
- You can get IPS nomination after a lengthy service, but there is lot of politics and seniority involved in nominations.
- You'll not enjoy the same constitutional immunities of IPS, hence more vulnerable to bullying by MLA, Ministers and even Senior IPS bosses.
- Senior IPS gets deputation to head CBI, RAW, CRPF etc. But in State service- always stuck in same police job.

Sir what is the difference in seniority between the two and are time scale promotions the same for both ips and state civil services police officers.
