[Q] can't pick up different language medium for each optional subject

Can we specify different language for each of the papers, for example I want to select Hindi for "Essay paper", English for "optional 1" and hindi for "optional 2". Does UPSC allow such selection of language?

No that is not permitted.
You've to write GS,Essay, Both optionals in the same language medium.
(English, Hindi whatever your choice)
PS.
1. If your second optional is Hindi literature, you can write only that optional in Hindi.
2. You can give interview in Non-English medium, even if you choose to write the mains in English.
